Marriage proposal on first dive

Postby hitch » Thu Jul 29, 2010 12:23 am

My girlfriend and I are planning our first dive in first week of September. I plan to propose to my girlfriend then. Has anyone on this site did this for his/her proposal? I have seen youtube videos but some didn't go too well. I saw two decent plans:

Plan A: Before the jump, I ask someone on the ground to set a banner with "Marry me?" near the landing area. I jump first and wait for my girlfriend with the ring. While she's landing, I get on one knee right in front of the sign. The one downfall I see is that she might not land near the sign and I have to chase after her.

Plan B: She jumps first and while she looking up waiting for me, my parachute will pop open with the phase "Marry me?" written inside. I don't know if anyone at Skydive Spaceland would have this type of chute.

What do you guys think? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Scared out of my mind (not because this would be my first jump :D )

PS That weekend is also Labor Day weekend, does it tend to get crowded then?

Plan A sounds much better. To have the word "Yahoo" printed on the bottom of a parachute cost around $1,000 (this was in 1999). I am sure you love your fiancé to be, but this a cost that is a little out there and to custom order a canopy takes a few months or more. When you arrive at Spaceland, quietly let the staff know what your plans are and what you hope will happen. I have done several proposal jumps over the years and we usually land right in front of the groom to be. There is no guarantee that we will land near you, but it is rare that we are not within a very reasonable distance. If you talk to the office staff and let them know your concerns they may even be able to hand pick some of the senior staff that should be able to land right where you like. You could even call ahead or show up a couple days ahead to help make sure everything works out for the best. Most any weekend can be fairly busy like any amusement park or major attraction so plan on a decent wait and crowd to share your special day with. Feel free to ask any other questions here or give our office a call. Congratulations!!!!!!
